Comfort and Joy

I will turn their mourning into gladness; I will
give them comfort and joy instead of sorrow.

5 months

Austin turned 5 months on the 25th. Here is a picture of him on the blanket (we have taken his picture on this same blanket since he was 2 weeks old). I am including a picture of him at 4 months so you can see how much he has grown in a month. At his 4 month check-up the doctor was a little concerned that he was on the low end of the growth chart (only 10%) so this last month we have been on nursing boot camp. We went back after 2 weeks and he had gained 14 ounces and then again 2 weeks later and he had gained another 17 ounces. He now weighs almost 15 lbs. He is still only 25% but getting bigger. We are hoping he will gain a little more once we start on more solids.

David in Peru

David went with our church (IPC) last week on a medical mission trip to Peru. I am so proud of him for giving of his time and talents. He really enjoyed helping the Peruvians and spending time with the other team members. We missed him at home but we know they needed him more down there.

Here he is with a patient.

2 of my favorite people

On our trip last week we stopped in to say hello to Aunt Anne and cousin Olivia. Austin loves seeing Olivia. She loves to give him hugs, kisses, and pats on the head.

Austin and Mommy trip

Austin and I took a trip this past week to my mom's house outside of Nashville. David went on a medical mission trip so we decided to take a road trip by ourselves. We had big plans to head to Nashville for a few days and see high school and college friends and then head north to Cincinnati to see 2 of my closest friends and their kids. Unfortunately the Cincinnati trip was canceled because my 2 friends (plus 2 of the 4 kids) got sick. We were so sad to not make it to Cincinnati. We stayed longer in my hometown though and hung out with great friends. We have missed daddy more than words can express. I don't know how single parents do it. You are amazing! It is not easy taking care of a child all by yourself but we had a great time. Austin was a trooper as I toted him all around town meeting old friends.

These are the children of 3 of my closest friends from high school. There are 2 more on the way.

I have watched these 2 kids grow up for the last 11 years.  I babysat them when they were little and have continued to be a part of their lives.  They were in my wedding almost 6 years ago.  They met Austin for the first time this week.  It was pretty surreal to see the kids you have known since they were 3 and 5 holding your child.

Austin on the move

Austin has been flipping from his belly to his back for almost 6 weeks now but still can't flip from his back to his belly. He gets frustrated when he gets stuck on his back but can't quite make it over onto his belly.

This is him on his belly trying to scoot a little (not really going anywhere).

His precious feet and legs!

Austin and Forrest

I took some pictures of Austin today. The sun was shining in his room so I decided to try and capture some shots. I took some with Sadie (our dog) and some with Austin next to our picture of Forrest. I wish Forrest was here to sit next to his baby brother. I know he would have been a wonderful big brother.

Cousins

Olivia (our niece) came to visit Memphis this past weekend. She loves Austin and he loves her too. He just watches her and thinks she's fascinating. Olivia was sitting on the floor so I tried to see if she would hold Austin and she was so good with him. She held him tight and gave him hugs while we took tons of pictures. She is going to be a great big sister come July.

Exersaucer

Austin really enjoys sitting up and looking around at everything. He loves his exersaucer.

more cereal

This is how Austin looked after his morning cereal.  It was everywhere.  I have to change clothes before I feed him because he gets it all over himself and all over me.  It's a lot of fun to watch him learn new things.

I love NY

This is for my Uncle Christoph.  He bought this onesie for me for Christmas.  I hope to visit him there one day.
