Here are some cute pictures of Austin over the last 4 months.
Comfort and Joy
I will turn their mourning into gladness; I will
give them comfort and joy instead of sorrow.

Forrest Spence 5K

On September 6 (4 days before what would have been Forrest's 1st birthday) the Forrest Spence 5K was held at Overton Park. It was an amazing day. The weather was perfect and the race went off without a hitch. Over 750 people competed with another 200 who signed up as ghost runners. $27,000 was raised for the Forrest Spence Fund which gives back to LeBonheur Children's Medical Center (primarily the Pediatric ICU where Forrest spent his life). There was food, games, music, and a ton of people. It was a beautiful day that I know Forrest would have loved.
Austin's birth
September 25 was a wonderful day. We went in that morning at 5:00 am to be induced. We were in a room by 6:00 and I received my first antibiotic then. By 12:00 we could tell it was getting close to time. At 12:45 I knew he was ready to make his entrance. My doctor came at 1:00 and at 1:16 Austin was born. He weighed 7 lbs. 8 ounces and was 21 inches long. He was perfect.

Trip to Florida
David and I just returned from a week long vacation in Florida. We had a wonderful time. Thank you to our sweet church friends who let us borrow their place. It was such a special time for David and I to be together and at the beach. There is something so calming and soothing about the ocean. It is definitely therapy for me.
PICU Care Packages
One way we are using the money from the fund (and other friends and helpers) is to make Care Packages for the PICU. We made our first one last week for an infant baby boy. I loved putting the Care Package together and praying over this special family who is going through one of the most difficult times of their life. The package included: magazines, 3 children's books, roll of coins for the vending machine, chapstick, hand sanitizer, stuffed animal to keep in the bed, journal, blanket, socks, a decorative card for his/her name to put on the bed, snacks, and water. We are also working with Child Life Services to purchase things they need in the PICU. We are thrilled to help LeBonheur and give back to a place that gave us so much.
